Jazz at Lincoln Center

At The Sherry-Netherland, guests don’t have to go far to get their jazz on with New York City’s Lincoln Center just three blocks away. Here at this theatrical hub, Jazz at Lincoln Center calls the Frederick P. Rose Hall its beloved home. Dubbed the “House of Swing,” which admittedly has a nice ring to it, the hall is the world’s first venue designed specifically for jazz performances.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra boasts 15 of the finest soloists, ensemble players and music arrangers in jazz today, representing jazz as the resident and touring big band. At the helm, trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis is the Jazz Managing and Artistic Director. A nine-time Grammy Award winner, Marsalis has recorded 60 jazz and classical recordings, and in 1983 and 1984 was the first and only artist to win both classical and jazz Grammys in the same year.

In addition to its orchestra performances, The Jazz at Lincoln Center calendar fills up with solo action, quartet performances and other special tribute events with one mission in mind: — to play “in the spirit of swing.” A paradox in music, The Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates both individual expression and yet a common ground with others, while its bluesy nature invites listeners to “face diversity with persistent optimism.”

Frederick P. Rose Hall

Frederick P. Rose Hall at the Lincoln Center houses a handful of unique venues at this iconic jazz landmark. The most versatile venue is Rose Theatre, with movable on-stage tower seating, while Greek amphitheater design- inspired The Appel Room flaunts views of Central Park. For nightly jazz performances, visit Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola.

Lincoln Center is also home to the Jazz Academy, an awe-inspiring facility dedicated to programs that sharpen the appreciation, understanding and performance of jazz among children, teens and adults. From listening parties to jazz instruction, everyone can get into the swing of jazz. There’s even a Band Director Academy for today’s aspiring jazz leaders.
